Mechanism of action

Clostridium botulinum-derived neurotoxin; cleaves SNAP-25 protein in presynaptic terminal; prevents acetylcholine vesicle fusion and release; causes temporary, reversible muscle paralysis/relaxation at injection site.

Safety profile

Injection site pain/bruising; asymmetry if incorrectly placed; ptosis (drooping eyelid/brow); headache; rare: dysphagia, flu-like symptoms, spread of toxin effect. Requires trained administration. · Decades of clinical use; extremely well-characterized; rare distant spread of toxin effect
